You know you're in trouble when the gated, secure areas get smaller and smaller. Similar to defending a castle from an invading force; the invading force breeches the walls, so you pull back to the inner walls; the invaders breech those so you pull back to the Keep. When the invaders breech the Keep you're fighting hand-to-hand and the odds are not good for you to survive the engagement.
Here in the good 'old U.S. of A. we've accommodated and pulled back and there's no where else to go.
