Ebola: What's Coming Next?

"Duncan was merely the FIRST Ebola patient we'll be getting (as long as the jacktards in charge keep the pipeline open), rather than the LAST.
Duncan's problems are over, and even the 50 people in Dallas sweating bullets until the 20th aren't the major concern.
The problem is the next 1, or 5, or 20 Duncans who get off of planes in NYC, DC, Boston, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, etc. Not if, but when, exactly as the CDC told every hospital in the country two weeks before Duncan walked into Texas Health Presbyterian, and started the party.
Flight crews on commercial airplanes are no better trained nor equipped, the "screenings", there, here, or anywhere, will do little to catch infected people, and nothing at all to stop those like Duncan in the latent incubation stage of Ebola.
Like TSA screenings of your shoes and cavity searches for underwear bombs, it's kabuki theatre to simulate action, with no real effect.
Hospitals are mostly no better off, and will respond, each time, exactly as THP did: poorly, clumsily, and while endangering the health of everyone concerned.
Everybody has to burn their hand on the stove before they really get what "hot" means.
So our troubles aren't over on Oct. 20th, or whenever the last Duncan-related contact passes from quarantine isolation precautions. They've just begun, until the last patient anywhere in the world passes out of quarantine.
And that will be like earthquakes: Only until the next time."

Have you got a plan, any plan? Or is your plan hoping the 'wizards' in the emerald city will save you when the Ebola 'walkin' dude' flys into Charlotte or maybe Asheville? Yeah right. Read the whole thing from Aesop here

The Ebola farce

Ebola virus under an electron micoscope
"We fully understand. He wasn't coughing up lung tissue or spurting blood from his eyeballs so hoo cudda fully node. But just a few days before Mr. Duncan arrived, none other than President Obama assured us:
art-link-symbol-tiny-grey-arrow-only-rev01.gif We've been taking the necessary precautions, including working with countries in West Africa to increase screening at airports so that someone with the virus doesn't get on a plane for the United States. In the unlikely event that someone with Ebola does reach our shores, we've taken new measures so that we're prepared here at home.
In Obama's defense, he's a liar. His core supporters believe him, who can ask for better evidence? No sense in getting all worked up about it. Some people are left handed, some people are short and others tall, some people stutter. Obama lies. It's just his way. He can't help it so let it be.' More here
Thomas Eric Duncan--Ebola patient zero in America
I've been thinking over the last two days of the silent film "keystone cops." For those of you born after the millenium, hell, for those of you born after 1970, the phrase "keystone cops" doesn't mean much. We're talking about going back to Charlie Chaplin and all those great stage gags. Think totally incompetent, you know, like the pResident-in-chief Barry Sotero.
Barry riding his Bicycle, Bicycle!
The only question really is do we contain the epidemic with less than 50,000 dead, martial law over much of, if not all the U.S., or does the Third American Revolution go 'hot' within six months?
And it just gets 'funner and funner!'

Follow the Arms and Ammunition

ISIL two-squad formation
The Islamic State in the Levant (ISIL) are getting their arms and ammunition from somewhere.
But where? True, the bulk of the logistics and materiel has been captured from Syria and Iraq.
However, ISIL is not dumping oil on the world market just for grins and chuckles--they need the money--the money to buy stuff, stuff like weapons.
Follow the arms/ammunition. Follow the money. Learn who has something to gain--just as in previous wars. The Big question is "are we, we as in Americans and Chinese, taking money from the Islamists and if so, whose palms are getting 'greased?" Article here.

Captured Iraqi/American Humvee
I wouldn't be surprised if some of that captured materiel doesn't make it back here to North America and the Islamist 'terror' cells. Talk about 'blowback!'
You are ready for that aren't you? Well aren't you?

Sheriff Candidates Must Debate

Jackson County candidates for sheriff must debate in front of their fellow citizens. To respond to a reporter's questions in a newspaper article is less than a bare minimum for voters to consider. Both of the candidates must stand side-by-side before we the people and answer live questions so that we may avoid hearing scripted responses which say so little.
Curtis Lambert
We want to hear how our candidates for sheriff will respond to important issues of the day when under pressure.
Chip Hall
This is important because citizens of Jackson County want to stand behind our elected sheriff in community matters. To allow the new sheriff, whoever it might be, to escape being honest, open and accountable to the citizens of Jackson County before they are elected and sworn in is to effectively make a decision based upon partisan party politics. This is unacceptable. Partisan party politics should be far down on the list of electable characteristics for a fit sheriff candidate who is arguably the most powerful elected official in each county in North Carolina.
The citizens of Jackson County expect and deserve no less.

Airborne, Droplets or Fomites?

Macaque monkeys are often used for microbiological research purposes
When news broke that the Ebola virus had resurfaced in Uganda, investigators in Canada were making headlines of their own with research indicating the deadly virus may spread between species, through the air.
More here.

And then there's this:
UM, CALL ME CRAZY, BUT cleaning up Ebola vomit with a pressure washer seems like a lousy idea, with droplets blown into air and such. Note the absence of protective gear. Note woman in sandals standing next to runoff. Maybe they’d hosed everything down with bleach first. Somebody please tell me this isn’t as bad as it looks...
After Katrina some people complained about FEMA's (and George W.'s) response to New Orleans--called it incompetent as all get out. Really now--as compared to what?
And also this:
These are just two examples of the utter incompetence of the so called 'authorities' in dealing with this epidemic. Sorry, but that's what it is and we're being led by the 'A'firmative 'A'ction team.
HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell
Can you trust this person?

or this one to keep you and your family from dying from Ebola?

When news broke that the Ebola virus had resurfaced in Uganda, investigators in Canada were making headlines of their own with research indicating the deadly virus may spread between species, through the air.
The team, comprised of researchers from the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease, the University of Manitoba, and the Public Health Agency of Canada, observed transmission of Ebola from pigs to monkeys. They first inoculated a number of piglets with the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus. Ebola-Zaire is the deadliest strain, with mortality rates up to 90 percent. The piglets were then placed in a room with four cynomolgus macaques, a species of monkey commonly used in laboratories. The animals were separated by wire cages to prevent direct contact between the species.
Within a few days, the inoculated piglets showed clinical signs of infection indicative of Ebola infection. In pigs, Ebola generally causes respiratory illness and increased temperature. Nine days after infection, all piglets appeared to have recovered from the disease.
Within eight days of exposure, two of the four monkeys showed signs of Ebola infection. Four days later, the remaining two monkeys were sick too. It is possible that the first two monkeys infected the other two, but transmission between non-human primates has never before been observed in a lab setting.

Ebola Jumps an Ocean--the Atlantic

Dallas TX hospital where first American Ebola patient is in isolation
"A man who took a commercial flight from Liberia that landed in Dallas on Sept. 20 has been found to have the Ebola virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Tuesday.

He is the first traveler to have brought the virus to the United States on a passenger plane and the first in whom Ebola has been diagnosed outside of Africa in the current outbreak."

You knew that it had to happen sooner, rather than later. I'd say that for the next week or so  things will be a little hectic in the grocery stores. The stock market is probably going to go nuts. Don't be surprised if a lock-down is coming to your community before Christmas. Do you have a plan?
Enola Gay has some excellent suggestions here.
Sooner rather than later fear-crazed, hungry people do desperate things, troops with loaded rifles fire on them in panic and then...God bless each and every one of us.
