Sheriff Candidates Must Debate
Jackson County
candidates for sheriff must debate in front of their fellow citizens.
To respond to a reporter's questions in a newspaper article is less
than a bare minimum for voters to consider. Both of the candidates
must stand side-by-side before we the people and answer live
questions so that we may avoid hearing scripted responses which say
so little.

We want to hear how our candidates for sheriff will
respond to important issues of the day when under pressure.

This is
important because citizens of Jackson County want to stand behind our
elected sheriff in community matters. To allow the new sheriff,
whoever it might be, to escape being honest, open and accountable to
the citizens of Jackson County before they are elected and sworn in
is to effectively make a decision based upon partisan party politics.
This is unacceptable. Partisan party politics should be far down on
the list of electable characteristics for a fit sheriff candidate who
is arguably the most powerful elected official in each county in
North Carolina.
The citizens of Jackson County expect and deserve no
less.
