A response to a neo-com novelist turned op/ed scribbler

Those of you who still read newspapers regularly know that there's a lot of disinformation out there. (No kidding!) One of my favorite disinformation sources is the Asheville Citizen-Times. Why do I continue to subscribe to this socialist rag? Put simply, nostalgia. I remember what a decent paper it once was. Oh well, I've got a heart--guilty as charged.
Recently (March 1, 2013) the AC-T published another rant, this time by David Madden, a novelist living in Black Mountain (no folks, don't start calling him yet). Madden's op/ed page rant was Why replace ballots with bullets?.
The man's thinking was so fuzzy (he has no conception about what the 2nd Amendment is about) it was absolutely laughable yet I had to respond to it which I do so here:

"David Madden's Why replace ballots with bullets (AC-T, 3/1/13) demonstrates no understanding of the 2nd Amendment, much less, by inference the rest of our Natural Rights. His false claim that the 'real' issue is “whether a limit may be placed on a type of gun” shows a complete ignorance of what the 2nd Amendment is for and the fact that we are not talking about guns but rifles. Guns are indirect-fire arms. Rifles are direct-fire arms. With a gun you can lay down an artillery barrage to destroy an army. With a rifle you can neutralize a tyrant.

John Locke in his Second Treatise of Government showed by careful inductive and deductive reasoning when and why it the the right of the people to judge themselves “absolved” and make an “appeal to Heaven” with whatever means necessary when a ruler becomes tyrannical. No office-holder can ever change this truth-to-power.

Each day we engage in this silly debate re 'safety' and 'for the children' v. 'assault weapons' and 'high-capacity' magazines solves nothing and leads us inexorably to where these issues will be resolved—the battlefield."
